To the right side of the glider an option with a tool tip that says "Use reversed value of last marker".

I would even go further with another button that allows you to enable some kind of auto mode. When you enable it another menu overlays with options to automate it through the entire project. When the overlay menu closes the instrument is noticably in that mode and options are greyed out unless you disable it. New time markers appear in another color like blue or something. To know the difference with a 3rd to indicate overlapping. Then if you decide you want to disable it you have the option to convert the existing markers to manual mode (gold) so they're not erased and you can tweak them as you normally would. This way even if you wanted something custom in a bar here or there, you at least have a way to propagate some settings across the entire project.

I think starting it with a simple triangle motion option that you can set between 1/4 grid to 4 or 8 bars? You can configure the frequency so that it happens only every other 1/4 grid to 4 or 8 bars starting from the 1 or 2 meaning odd or even.

You're given two gliders with one of them giving you the option to 'use opposite value of last'. This is for the user that want to use the feature between values that aren't the same.

Automations that extend past the last note of a project are automatically truncated (in a smart way to not break the pattern)

Then through time other more complex motions can be introduced like sine and square with more input options to get it to work.

I'm not claiming to be the brightest and there maybe better ideas. These are all just suggetions from a users pov.
