Complex, or art music began with classical music, and then jazz, and the third generation of art music, I think, is metal. What are your predictions on the future of complex music? My belief is perhaps a new type of electro music will emerge.

Black midi, though technically complex don't involve many complex musical ideas, like jazz chords, or classical structure, and often are based on previous songs

I wrote this in chat logs but I thought I'd copy and paste it here anyways cause I liked the way I worded my answer... ;-;

Idk man... I feel that pop is pretty complex already, and also we humans tend to stick to musical patterns that conform with our culture and our ears. So I feel that the rate of change, if mapped out as a function (a derivative) would be logarithmic in nature. Moreover, it would have a larger slope at t=0, but eventually as all the styles evolve, it would eventually slow down and stop changing as much, such that any further changes would be immeasurable.

Tbh once you understand the theory behind jazz and classical, it is very easy to replicate and understand. Besides you give electronic music the benefit of the doubt. It's like saying you don't like oranges, oranges are fruit, fruit is food, therefore all food is bad. It's an over generalization of the genres and music styles.

I was saying I believe electro music has potential... I don't like listening to it as overcompression hurts my ears, but I find some of it's aspects interesting. If it could migrate from it's traditionally simple structure, I believe it might be the new art music.

Jazz, classical and metal require relatively more practice in technicality and theory to achieve, and each have simpler forms, like smooth jazz. This does not mean everyone will find it easy even if they do understand the theory. It took me until now to finally kind of understand jazz, and I've wanted to make it since I started.

I'm trying to be optimistic guys...

In terms of complexity, I think that microtonality is what is ahead of us in the near future because it offers a lot more than what the 12ET can. In addition to that, synths can produce many different timbres so it looks like electronic music is going to keep expanding into more genres.
