Hi there,
I'm exporting midis for use with Synthesia on the ipad, is it possible to assign fingering and hands to notes or would I need something else to do that?
Many thanks

Agreed with LucentTear. That's very wrong to do on OS. OS is not for touch screens.

Actually I agree with LucentTear on this one.
Synthesia is very unique in that it allows for fingering numbers, whereas most other programs do not.
If MIDIs were able to store fingering information, then it would be different. But my research finds that MIDIs are not capable of carrying such information.
Very sorry.

My research shows that MusicXML files, which use a special type of programming language to create sheet music, do allow for note finger position information.
Allowing for finger information may become a possibility if Online Sequencer were to start to incorporate MusicXML files into the site, but currently there is no real need for them, as the community does not appear to need them.

However, I can see how MusicXML files may offer an advantage over the site's current .sequence file system. You may be able to ask them to try experimenting around with an "export to MusicXML" feature, or try creating it yourself in the php/html/js GitHub for the site itself.

I'd hate to crush your hopes for this ever being able to happen. But like I said, currently there isn't much of a need for this kind of thing, so idk how the developers will respond to this.

Also, I guess it's worth mentioning that
it's hard to find information about Synthesia, but my research shows that Synthesia has been using MusicXML integration since Synthesia 11, which was released about 3 years ago.

So if Online Sequencer were to theoretically start allowing for MusicXML file exports, then Synthesia probably would be able to import them back in to itself.

In that case, then Online Sequencer could also start creating finger position placements, too. But ask fox or Liam about this, because like I said, this isn't really in too high of demand as of right now.

looks like the OP wants to make piano songs for them to play, i'm assuming. try musescore. it's free, it's actual sheet music, and you can put finger placement marks where necessary. if you really wanna stick with this site, you can probably transcribe from here to there pretty easily

Oh yeah Musescore is good, and it apparently has finger placements.

You can download MIDIs from Online Sequencer and then place them back into Musescore. The only problem with this is that Musescore tends to put notes all over the clefs. Generally I like to keep my left hand notes in the bass clef and my right hand notes in the treble clef. With Musescore, generally you'll just have to re-write the entire song in order to do this.

But yeah, it works, and often times works pretty well, especially since MuseScore uses the traditional music notation rather than using a horizontal midi notation like OS. And MuseScore is free as well. I definitely recommend trying it if you enjoy composing.
