I'm starting to become quite partial to smooth synth even though I mostly avoid the synths because of how much louder some are than others.

I like french horn and trombone too, especially when combined, and sitar has a nice echo to it that is hard to replicate in most instruments except harp.

definitely 808 drums and square wave. i use synth pluck quite a bit too.
