I don't mean to discriminate in any way, but a lot of the new users are issues. Mostly because a lot of them are middle schoolers, however it's very annoying when there's always a group of 3-5 people spamming random stuff. (ex. "FRIDGE" "FORK" "SPOON" "OVEN")

This doesn't happen that often however it's a bit irritating when you're trying to have a serious conversation about music and there's a bunch of children in chat talking about everything but music. The occasional off topic conversation is okay, but when everybody in chat is just there because they think this is just a chat website, it's a bit irritating.

Maybe there should be a lower age limit for the chatroom but I feel that would cause more problems than solve.

We have the age limit in part because we legally have to: https://www.ftc.gov/legal-library/browse...rule-coppa
However, even if we didn't, it wouldn't be worthwhile to allow users under 13 because a good portion of the people we ban for non-coppa reasons are likely under 13 anyways.

I'd assume the >13 rule on OS isn't strict because I've seen multiple instances of it being ignored as in mods turning their heads

Pricerocks, this is a very good point. But also, should we enforce birthdays for everyone so that we can have an easier time banning these users?

That's a good idea. No, that's a great idea.

I'm bumping this thread for the following reason:
Threads are being used as chat. Pseudoname says "Just a friendly reminder that this is not a chat room. This is a forum. Please do not use the forums like chat. It's extremely unhelpful and creates clutter for people who use the forums as intended, to have meaningful discussions or talk about site issues."

Any ideas on how to enforce this?

Good question. I'm getting tired of being unable to find serious discussion and information in this place recently. It's discouraged me from using much of the forums at all whereas before I was reading a fair bit of it every week. I never use the chat anymore either as a result, what's the point?

People need to understand that there's a limit to the casualness in forum discussion. Some standards of quality and length are expected.

Dealing with spam and those death threats is no fun at all. Adding a specific rule about death threats sounds like a good idea to keep things positive.
