I recently made a sequence which I exported to MIDI so I could re-import it later to resume work on it.
It is supposed to look like this (note red notes):

But when re-importing, it looks like this:

Note that the 8-bit drum notes get mangled and fall outside of the drum note range, so the MIDI file - exported by sequencer - no longer plays correctly in sequencer (I am also confused why, if it knows what the correct instruments are, it still insists on forcing me to manually select them every time).
I recognise sequencer is trying to export the MIDI in a way that is 'compatible' for other MIDI players, but the mangling of the notes means every time I reimport I have to keep correcting the note positions to re-hear the original song, which is a lot of work to do on (especially on more complex song structures), and I don't want to do that. I would suggest either giving an option to toggle between compatibility (for other players) or consistency (for Sequencer), or provide a custom Sequencer-only file format that guarantees the integrity of the sound data will be preserved as intended. I like to generate a lot of files of variations of songs that I don't want to clog up your website with until it is 'finalised'.
If you want to try to replicate this yourself, I've created a copy of the sequence here:
